Holidaying in a pandemic: A short adventure in Morocco

Day One We arrive to warmer weather than we anticipated (32degC) and I immediately create havoc outside the airport in Marrakech, refusing to pay 200 Dirhams (20 Euros) for the three mile taxi ride into town. This is eventually reduced to 100 but it's too late, I've spied the bus. The driver appears and starts the engine. Just us and one other passenger. He assures us he's … [Read more...] about Holidaying in a pandemic: A short adventure in Morocco

Worldschool from home: Why and how?

Worldschool from home: Why and how?

In a previous post, I explained my wanderlust dilemma. I love to travel, but my circumstances mean I cannot do this as much as I would like. I am a home educator and as such I am 'economically unviable'. My partner has a job he loves at our local hospital and his income pays for our way of life. I am thoroughly attracted to the idea of worldschooling and I believe it … [Read more...] about Worldschool from home: Why and how?

Slow travel vs fast tourism: Fly less and see more

Getting the short-haul fix City breaks and fortnights in the sun are mainstays of our culture and treated more as a right than a privilege or a luxury. This is made all the more possible by cheap flights on budget, no frills airlines to common destinations. It now costs less to fly from the UK to many parts of Europe than it does to get a train across England, and in some … [Read more...] about Slow travel vs fast tourism: Fly less and see more

Best of Madeira

Best of Madeira

After close to a month’s worth of travel, stays in the capital, in the hills of the interior and on the coast, we know this beautiful, green gem of an Atlantic island pretty well. There’s a very good reason why anyone you know who has been to Madeira will say they have been numerous times, or that they are planning to go back. For such a small island it packs in a lot. And, as … [Read more...] about Best of Madeira

Amazing free things to do on the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales

Amazing free things to do on the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales

On our recent trip to the Isle of Anglesey, or Ynys Môn in Welsh, we were amazed by the number of well preserved ancient historical sites, some dating back thousands of years. The sites are managed by Cadw, the Welsh government’s heritage service, and most are free to visit, and only a short walk from main roads. Three of them are close to the village of Moelfre on the … [Read more...] about Amazing free things to do on the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales

What is One Planet Parent?

Inspiration for simple living, decluttering, saving money, going vegan, unschooling and learning through travel for parents who want to do things differently.

As parents, we can nuture a generational shift in perspective and provide the skills, knowledge and motivation for young people to live well with less, create a connection to nature and other people, and to care deeply about the Earth.

Our planet is going to need critical thinkers, problem solvers, outdoor lovers, frugal living experts and environmental activists, not passive consumers and followers of fashion. We only have one planet, and as parents we have an opportunity to create change and mitigate the mistakes of the past.

By ‘being the change’ we can lead by example.
